A Chicago divorce lawyer recently paid for a billboard ad that said, “Life’s short. Get a Divorce.” It caused a huge storm of controversy, but when you think about it, the lawyer actually got it wrong. It’s not that life is short at all. If life were short, then a divorce wouldn’t really matter because people would just die. The real issue is that life is actually pretty long and getting longer. In that case, those who didn’t choose a good partner may indeed want to get a divorce. Note to Corri Fetman: you need to re-write your billboard (if it goes back up) to read “Life’s long. Get a Divorce.”
