The Slippery Slope

I almost can’t believe it, but I just watched a newscast that reported San Francisco has just banned smoking in public parks — that’s *outdoors* folks. Wow — critics of the indoor smoking ban were right that it wouldn’t stop there…

Update: here’s a SF Chron piece on it.

First they came for the smokers. People worry about the wrong things when it comes to freedom.I don’t really care if the FBI looks in my bank account without my knowing it as long as they are doing it for a good reason. What I care abu more than anything is the right to do what I want when I want without having to explain it someone. That is where the war on smoking is really disturbing. You should be able to do whatever you want within reason. Its our everyday freemdoms that are the most valuable and the most at risk. We can run a virtual child porn site on the internet, but can’t smoke in a public park. There is something really wrong with that.
