I went to an event hosted by the Alliance for Aging Research today in SF. Speakers included Dr. Karen Bandeen-Roche who discussed how to measure aging with biomarkers; Dr. Leonard Guarente who discussed resveratrol and the sirtuin genes that regulate aging; Dr. Mitchell Harman who talked about what it takes to get research done; and Aubrey de Grey who outlined his 7 theories for why people age. In all, it was an interesting and worthwhile event. I also met fiction writer Dan A. Baker whose book Forever and Ever appears to be based on solid science research.
