Imagine if you were forced to share your property with your business competitors — you probably wouldn’t be thrilled and likely wouldn’t do much to upgrade that property. Unfortunately that’s been the state of things in the telecom sector, but today the FCC ruled that the telcos don’t have to share their high-speed lines anymore. This will help to spur rollout of broadband and other services such as IPTV. And for those who think that the ruling kills hope for a bunch of resellers (think Earthlink and others), they might want to consider the explosion of MVNOs (cell phone resellers). No one forces the cell phone companies to let others share their networks, yet it is happening anyway. Virgin, Disney, and others are getting into the game. Here’s an interesting news piece on it.
