RFID was a big topic of discussion this week at the RSA conference. The chips can be used to track almost anything from inventory to humans. Indeed, I met Joseph Krull, who has a Verichip implanted in his arm. He told me he doesn’t expect everyone to be using the technology in this way, but that he thought the Verichip would be a better way to identify people than the current trend of biometrics. That’s because if the chip number gets compromised, you can always remove it. You can’t just exchange your biometrics. He’s got a point.
Here’s my column on more RFID issues.
